Katie May’s First Wedding Gown

by Katie May on January 11, 2012

I had an incredible weekend in October celebrating my little sister’s marriage to my new fab bro-in-law! She looked flawless and her wedding was perfection, just like she! I was lucky enough to design her wedding gown, hopefully being the first of many Katie May wedding gowns. Enjoy the pics from Kauai and send lots of love and good vibes to the newly wed Carringtons icon smile .  Love you Kristine – I’m so proud of you! xx

Mr Sandman

by Katie May on December 6, 2011

When in tropical paradise, it almost seems to be a requirement to wear all white.  Nothing seems to go better with the white sandy beaches, the sun streaked hair, and a golden tan.  Here’s me doing exactly that in Amanpulo.

My Breezy Lizzle Blouse

by Katie May on December 1, 2011

Here is a pairing for the romantic in us all, chiffon and lace. Delicate, drapey, sheer, inncocent, AHHMAZING. I really love this blouse, but I love it even more when wearing it on a breezy beach day in absolute paradise. SO dreamy!

Amy B. Covering Up

by Katie May on November 21, 2011

To celebrate our two year anniversary, my hubby took me on a VERY special private island in the Philippines called Amanpulo. Hands down the closest to paradise I’ve EVER been! Sunrises, sunsets, snorkeling, lounging, drinking, eating, sunbathing, swimming, sleeping, and enjoying the simple yet entirely luxurious amenities this paradise has to offer. I have been owning the style scene on this island icon wink and wearing tons of Katie May. The Amy B has barely been taken off since our arrival and is HANDS DOWN my favorite beach cover up.  Beach chic?  I think so!  xx

Vintage Navajo

by Katie May on November 16, 2011

Dinner with the hubs in Azabu-juban led to a photoshoot against the lovely randomness you find all over the streets of Tokyo!  Graffiti, paneled wood, neon lights, happy ending bars….GOD I LOVE TOKYO!  Dinner was amazing – we stuffed our faces with yakitori at our fave spot!  The ginger wrapped pork blew my mind – oink oink!  xxx

Luving Luv Aj Fall

by Katie May on October 31, 2011

Jewelry designer and Los Angeles talent, Amanda Thomas of Luv Aj, nailed her fall collection and lookbook.  It’s edgy, sophisticated, and the E-P-I-T-O-M-E of statement jewelry!  The collection was shot by LA based food photographer and TV personality, Claire Thomas of Kitchy Kitchen.  There is such a ease with the flow of the lookbook and the way it was shot – it’s moody, androgynous, eloquent, and glamorous – reading very high fashion.  I’m obsessing over the pieces – this is exactly what I will be wearing for this Fall/Holiday season.  I picked out my favorite shots from the lookbook to share, enjoy!  xx

Industry Interview, Photographer Nicole L. Hill

by Katie May on October 21, 2011

Let me tell you a little something about this fabulous human being, Nicole L. Hill.  First, she’s young (running trend it seems). Second, she’s CRAZY talented (again, a running trend).  Lastly, she’s SO down to earth and SO cool!!!  To reiterate–if you don’t like her, YOU obvs have a problem (and potentially no soul)  ;)

After nailing, seeeeeeeriously NAILING, our Spring 2012 lookbook shoot (see shots below) I knew I had to sit her down and pick her damn big brain (and heart). Enjoy!  xx

mandy1katynadja      ME:  FAVORITE ON THE JOB MEMORY/EXPERIENCE?

HER:  I don’t think I have a favorite memory but a few weeks back my team and I were shooting on location at some sand dunes.  Once we arrived to our location, which was three hours away, we come to find out that the road had collapsed due to some rain. It turns out that the hike to our actual shooting spot was about four miles away, through the sand. Insanely enough this did not stop us, we gathered up the gear and maned the four mile hike like champions. It just made me so feel so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such good spirited people. I mean, we carried bags and bags of clothes, shoes, camera gear and lighting equipment, it wasn’t easy and it wasn’t glamourous. It’s not everyday that you’re surrounded by happy people who appreciate what their doing and keep trucking with a smile. It’s just a really good memory in my mind.

ME:  ICE CREAM OR FroYO?

HER:  Rainbow Sherbet all the way!

ME:  WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST?

HER:  Nature, my beautiful parents, god, love, positive energy.

ME:  WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS A GREAT FIRST CAMERA/LENS FOR AMATEURS OUT THERE WANTING TO START?

HER:  Any DSLR camera. Don’t worry about getting something thats expensive or professional grade, buy something you can afford and just explore. Explore ways of looking at light, capturing moments, playing with angles, viewing your subject. Have fun, get weird and see what happens.

ME:  WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LAST MEAL?

HER:  A mexican feast of all sorts & a huge glass of green tea.

ME:  THREE VICES?

HER:  Buying my dog too many squeak toys, drinking excessive amounts of green tea and reading when I really should be getting work done.

ME:  DREAM PERSON TO WORK WITH (besides me obvi;) ?

HER:  I am dying to shoot for Free People and Wildfox, they both are just too amazing for words. When that days comes I’ll be a happy camper.

ME:  IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW, WHERE WOULD YOU BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

HER:  Floating on a raft in the ocean on a tropical island, listening to the wind in the trees.

ME:  WHAT IS YOUR GOAL WITH THE IMAGES YOU CAPTURE?

HER:  I really want to inspire people to find beauty, that hard to get kind. The kind that comes from within… strength, courage, dignity. I mean, all the woman I photograph are ridiculously gorgeous, but I want my subjects and stories to have something more, something deeper.

ME:  BEST ADVICE ANYONE HAS EVER GIVEN YOU?

HER:  Trust in god and always stay present.

ME:  WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHER?

HER:  How can I answer that… Well, if Annie Leibovitz, Sebastian Kim, Greg Kadel, Camilla Akrans, Ellen Von Unwerth, Guy Aroch and Jamie Nelson transformed into one person, that person would be my favorite photographer. Haha, there are too many amazing photographers out there to pick one!

ME:  ONE WISH FOR THE WORLD?

HER:  For more people to believe in themselves and follow their passions.

ME:  FAVORITE KATIE MAY PIECE FROM THE SPRING SHOOT?

HER:  The Kristine, obsessed!!!
